i was enrolling at Silliman university a few days ago. the weather was particularly humid that time. i clearly remember because i was sweating like a pig. i was heading for the gate near Silliman hall where i parked my ride because i finally completed all the requirements and was about to go home when all of a sudden this Korean guy approached me and asked if i was Filipino. after i said i was, he introduced himself as a Korean tourist and asked if i know what to dial if i wanted to call Korea. he said he really wanted to call his mom back home and wondered if i could help him with his dilemma. but duh, i couldn't help him. i know nothing about calling Korea. i helped him the best i could by giving him instructions for more help(he was using a smart sim card). i told him maybe smart telecom could help him. i gave him directions and he thanked me for the information and he went his way. but that wasn't all that happened. the soonest he came a few feet away from me, i noticed that he furiously reeked of bad body odor. all i could do was hold my breath and hope he wouldn't notice. he didn't. he smelled so bad i wanted to get away from him but i didn't. i mustered all my courage and respect to stay put and try to help him. at least he didn't badger me with more questions i couldn't answer. i breathed a deep sigh the moment he was out of nasal reach. i mean, how is it that they don't have proper hygiene back in Korea? although now, the Korean students we have here in Dumaguete have learned to fit in. they don't smell bad anymore, and that's good for them, really good for them because now, people won't detour when they cross each other's paths. i noticed Iranians too have improved their hygiene over the years. they should be happy for the amount of things they've learned from the Dumaguetenos. it's awesome to be a pinoy!
