a lot of stir has been going on because of the recent Earth Hour event. skepticism flourished, bliss ensued.
many of us did not have the slightest idea what the real purpose of the said event was. i initially believed that it was just for saving an hour's worth of energy worldwide. quite conservative, but a good start nonetheless. it comes out as a very insignificant number considering the amount of energy consumed and wasted on a daily basis.
the event did harbour good effects, however, the fact that its effect cannot be felt at present makes most people believe they're just in for a well planned joke. a common person is likely to expect immediate effects of such things, however, that clearly is impossible. majority just shrugged of these actions because of that.
in reality, as what i have found out, the main purpose of Earth Hour was just advertise these kinds of efforts done by the different organizations in the world. it was not so much as to actually help our environment, that was just a side effect. but to inform all citizens of the world that there are those who are doing something, doing their part in saving our only earth.
in my day to day life, i have encountered a lot of people who are feeling the effects of global warming, and they intensely want to do their part but just don't know where to start. this, i feel is my initiative to help spread awareness to all those i can reach. a bottom-up approach would be very ideal for these kinds of situations. markedly so, a very important facet of having success is to have a goal. and my goal would be to leave the SG having done all i could to spread awareness and what we can do to mitigate global warming, and then completely erase it.
