I'm not technologically fluent really, so i guess it's high time for me to create a proper blog.
it's the first of november 2008, and it's my first post. mere coincidence, really.
through the years, i have tried my hands on being an aquarist. one who takes care and breeds aquatic animals. i started out way back when i was in grade 6. i got interested when we were asked by our adviser to have an aquarium project for our classroom. it was meant to be a project for us to enhance our responsibilities as tank owners. it was a group project, and at the end of the school year, our group decided who would take home the tank using the lottery method. i so wanted to take it home badly. unfortunately, i wasn't picked. i guess my groupmates found out later on that i wanted it because i became grumpy and uncooperative (as children do most of the time). they gave it to me out of pity.haha i even gave my most respect, saying "really? you don't have to, i'm okay with the decision." they had none of it. i took home the tank. until now,i still have that small 12'by5' scummed up glass tank. i still use it for occasional breeding and quarantines. i have even used it for containing snakes and the like when they wander so easily at home.
i have a bigger tank now. i acquired it a few years ago when i begged to have one proper tank where i could put my community fishes in. it's unfortunate though that a hundred or so fishes have died already due to inconsistencies, but that's just how it goes. i remember the first time i filled the large tank. it was a cold water community tank, with goldfish varieties as the majority of tankgoers. they all lived for about half a year and they died because of the temperature. here in the Philippines, the temperature during the summer months skyrockets, even affecting my tank. i was a disaster. just when my tank has matured, they had to die. so, i learned my lesson, and the next batch of fishes i acquired were temperate community fishes. i forgot how they too, died and it took me a few more batches to have the set i have now, a healthy, breeding, hardy set of livebearers. there is nothing like these livebearers. my tank now has matured up to a point where i don't put an aerator already. my tank is a self-sustaining fish tank. i don't even have a filter. although i occasionally give the bonus feeds every few days to compliment the available food. i'm happy with my tank right now, except the constant need to trim the vallisnerias. they're like a forest now, but overall, i'm happy. i have one beautifully colored convict in my pond, too. he's lonely, i'm thinking of getting him some company from my school's pond.
this is it for now. i hope i won't get tired of blogging. i hope i won't exhaust my ideas..hehe
