Blind Side

It was steep. He slid down the cold, muddy hill on his buttocks and hands. He felt numbness on those parts as they collided heavily with protuberant rocks and jagged roots jutting from the ground. He was bleeding, although he didn't know it yet. Mud and dirt have already taken residence deep in his skin. Sharp bushes collided with his every body part, stinging and entangling him in a mess of green, slime, and dead insects.

The sky was getting darker by the second. The sun, creeping down behind the massive mountain up ahead. It began to haze. Condensation was slowly setting in. His heart was pounding against his ribcage as he trekked the treacherous mountainside as fast as he could. He couldn't see very well. The pace his heart was beating was too much it clouded his mind and pushed his temples to the limit. Running blind in the thick forests of Balinsasayao, all he wants now is to get as far away as possible. The summer night was extremely chilly in the area, and he was clawing at bushes carving a path for himself. He was panting, burning inside as his muscles worked. He was hot, but his skin felt cold - a savage combination. He reached the bottom of the narrow valley and heard a splash. His feet touched a small puddle. He wanted to go on, but his legs wouldn't obey anymore, they felt like rubber. He was exhausted. Things kept flashing across his mind. He needed to go on. He knew he wasn't safe yet. He kept buckling over and ramming his torso among the thick vegetation. And then he tripped.

He woke to the sound of his own rustling on the forest floor. It was still dark. How long was he down? It couldn't have been long. His arm was wrought under his body, but it wasn't stinging yet. Must've been only minutes, but that can't be. The wind had died down. It means it's deep in the night. Hours?

He stopped, held his breath to listen to the slightest noise. He slowly pushed his body up from his face down position, trying not to make any noise.

"Aghh!" he almost screamed.

The pain was excruciating. His palm was scratched in several places. He noticed dried blood. He's been down a while, he conceded.
